Since our fresh cat and dog food undergoes a steam-cooking process, microbial testing is a critical step for our Quality Assurance team. We conduct moisture, fat, and protein tests on our products pulled from the line at various times throughout the day to ensure they meet our guaranteed minimums and maximums. Products are sent out weekly for nutritional analysis testing, as well.
For our bagged Roasted Meals recipes, we measure hourly for:
– Temperature
– pH
– Oxygen in pouch head-space
– Pouch leakage and seal integrity
– Aroma
– Color
– Texture
– Piece size
– Vegetable inclusion level
Every half-hour we check oxygen readings and run seal checks. Finally, hourly micro testing is conducted. No product leaves the building until a negative salmonella result is returned.
For our roll recipes, we measure hourly for:
– Temperature
– pH
– Aroma
– Color
– Texture
– Moisture
– Vegetable inclusion level
And every half-hour, we check the seals on the rolls.
